News

6 December 2011 - Just done a radio interview at Dover Community Radio. Had lots of Zen Bicycle Band tracks played

12 November 2011 - Enjoyable performance with the Sussex Cantata and a piece by John Gowers

22 September 2011 - Three festivals done over the summer - Smugglers, Alchemy and Big Green Cardigan - all good fun and some great responses

22 June 2011 - Creative Music Workshop now confirmed as 22 October - Astor College Dover. New website coming soon www.zencollective.co.uk with full details

21 June 2011 - All ZBB stuff now on download sites across the world. I'm also working up a few vocals for when Dave and I do the Craft Fairs later in the summer. Poor Dave, having to listen to me sing.

8 May 2011 - New ZBB Album available from the Zen Bicycle Band website and shouls be on i-tunes/Amazon shortly. Just bought a KAt DK10 drum module, so playing around with that at the moment

18 March 2011 - After slagging off Facebook for so long, I've now gone back online. Do seek out friendship (I can't believe I'm saying this) ZBB album 'Essence' is now available. Catch us at a gig for your copy!

4 February 2011 - Frightening News - I'm having singing lessons. Don't worry though, I shall refrain from scaring small children for some while yet. Had a great gig at the Cleary Hall in Deal with ZBB and a super young band Boot Lagoon - a Soft Machine for modern times. Do catch them. They are keen to work with us again and we would enjoy that.

13 January 2011 - Really enjoyable gig at Keppels in Folkestone. Two weeks on the trot now. Last week with Claire Harris and tonight with Dave Corsby. Hopefully this venue will start to regain its popularity as hosting great local bands in a friendly environment.

12 January 2011 - Many thanks to Myrtle George for inviting me up to Sheffield to play her gig at The Lescar. What a great band to work with. Thanks to Chris, Nicola, Phil and Pierro

21 November 2010 - The Yamaha Vibe is at long last back and looking very fine. Can't wait to get out and gig it. Also, just getting the Zen Bicycle Band latest live album mastered and ready for release soon.

2 August 2010 - Wedding season is here, so I'm doing a few discos over the summer. My Yamaha vibraphone is currently in for a full refurbishment, so I'm looking forward to getting that back and back to playing the real thing instead of the MalletKat all the time.

I have an old Premier vibe that I'm getting rid of, so if you know anyone who wants one going cheap, do let me know.

13 June 2010 - Haven't updated for a while. My apologies. Things have been really busy, but I'm counting down to the end of my career as a Wedding DJ and concentrating on playing. That is when I get some spare time form the day job of course! Dave Corsby and I recently played in the Market Square in Dover for the opening of the new market and we sold a CD! The ZBB are trying out their first Art Centre concert on 31 July in Whitstable and it will be interesting to see if the good people of that area come and see us. Hope so. A bit of chilling out after the Oyster Festival!

10 April 2010 - I volunteered (ok, got talked into) being musical director for the forthcoming Dover Arts Festival. This is an event supporting a proposed commonwealth war memorial for Dover. At the moment, there is only the ZBB and the Beaujolais Singers appearing at various times during the day, but I'm on the look out for any other willing volunteers!

27 February 2010 - In a moment of madness I decided to buy myself a DAF (not a truck, but an Iranian Frame Drum). It is quite large and difficult to play, especially when you have small hands. I'm going to give it a go at the ZBB gig tonight.

22 January 2010

Another run out with the Jeff Barker band at Ramsgate, this time on MalletKat. Do catch this band, Jeff is a real entertainer.

Looking forward to the Dave Corsby gig on 4 Feb. It seems like ages since we last got together.

09 January 2010

Had a great double bill with Tener Duende on Monday at the Louis. Do catch them if you can. Great Jazz/Flamenco trio.

Stepped in at the last moment on Friday to play drums with the Jeff Barker Band. Great fun swing band with the lively Mr Barker getting the audience up and dancing (and singing). Hope to do a few more with them in the future.

2 January 2010

Well, what will the New Year bring and how many of you have broken your resolutions? Spent New Years Eve in the Louis watching that great Ska band Hey Rudi. Place was packed and it's a shame people don't go out as often as there should be many great nights dancing and having a fun time.

I'm spending today, mixing all the Live sets from the Louis and these will be on the ZBB website www.zenbicycleband.co.uk

1 November 2009

Back in the studio to record with Michel Chartier - A Michael Buble style swing vocalist. Album should be ready in the New Year

23 September

The Spirits By Night album is now ready and is available on a limited release. Go to Dave Corsby's site to purchase here

The Single "The Ebay Song" is still on Lulu at the reduced price of 25p for download. Cheap or what? Go here

15 September 2009

Had a great gig on Saturday night with Brass Tacks in the Market Square Dover. It was a dance/jazz piece based on Dave Corsby's Angels by Day, Spirit's By Night Suite. The Loop Dance Group were excellent.

It was nearly a disaster as the man from the BBC blew the fuse in the Live Site Screen (a TV the size of a double decker bus) If it wasn't for the local pub letting us plug our electrics in we would have been up the creek.

25 July 2009

Recorded a session with the Dave Corsby Sextet this week - along with one for the ZBB and the Phil Watkins Qrt, So lots of mixing down to do. Dave's Sextet will be playing for the last night of the proms celebration in Dover Market Square on 12 September. Possibility of live broadcast across the country and even BBC2.

30 May 2009

Talking of Deco 5, did a Disco there on Friday night - lots of 50s 60s and 70s. If it gets itself a reputation as a cool late night venue it will be very successful. Next time (12th June) I think we are going to start later and finish at 1.00am. Do join us.

25 April 2009

Good to see that Deco 5 in Whitstable is still persevering with live music through these difficult times. Will be there with Dave Corsby Qrt on 5 May.

19 April 2009

Picked up some cheap CD's courtesy of poor Zavvi who recently went bankrupt. One was for a band called the Blockheads. I really liked Ian Dury's backing outfit and knew that they had released a new album. It looked like I'd got a bargain, until playing it back in the car. It was some sort of Death Metal band sounding like the soundtrack to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Everything played so fast it sounded slow - if that makes sense. I made myself listen to it all the way through as a punishment for not being more observant.

20 March 2009

I've secured the domain names zenbicycleband.co.uk and .com. Now what do I do with them?

14 March 2009

Hoping to put together a Northern Tour sometime for the ZBB. More details soon. It is looking like this will be in 2010. I think the ZBB would benefit from a manager, because the type of music we play is so abstract that most of the usual venues are wary of booking us, which is a shame, because we are accessible.

10th February 2009

Sadly, the gigs at the 3 Tuns have come to an end. I think the credit crunch is really hitting local venues. Watch out, though for dates with the Dave Corsby Qrt at Deco 5 in Whitstable - a great art deco venue with an art gallery on the first floor.

8th January 2009

Enjoyed the gig up in Sheffield on 7 January with Myrtle George. If you get a chance to pick up her album, do so.

1st January 2009
